The Star Foundation, known for its commitment to making a positive impact in the lives of those facing adversity, has recently taken a remarkable step by contributing to Jumping Kids, a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting children in acquiring prosthetic equipment after amputation, for the next 12-months.

Every month, a child will receive a donation of R50,000 that will go towards their prosthetic leg.

Childhood amputation can be an overwhelming experience for both children and their families. Jumping Kids transforms the lives of these young individuals, providing them with the support they need to overcome physical challenges and prosthetic equipment so that they may live their lives to the fullest, like other children.

The Star Foundation's contribution goes beyond financial support. It’s about commitment to creating opportunities for children who have faced losing a limb and having their mobility restored.

Families who were once burdened by the challenges of amputation now find solace and hope as their children receive support from Jumping Kids, supported by The Star Foundation.

The Star Foundation is thrilled to launch a ground-breaking initiative that's set to make a lasting impact on the lives of children in the Mpumalanga province.

The five-year in school breakfast programme in collaboration with 

has officially kicked off in the Hazyview district.

This endeavour will touch the lives of a of 7,555 learners across eight schools in the Elanzheni District.

Our mission goes beyond simply providing nutritious breakfasts for these learners. It's about sowing the seeds of positive change, fostering brighter future and ultimately transforming communities. By nourishing their bodies, we aim to sharpen their minds, boost their academic performance and enhance their overall well-being.


However, our In-School Breakfast Programme doesn't stop there. It serves as a powerful catalyst for change, not only within the schools but also within the Hazyview community itself. Through comprehensive training programs and valuable internship opportunities, we're committed to empowering individuals to forge meaningful careers and play an active role in the development of our nation.

Together, we can make a difference, one breakfast at a time.

In-School Breakfast Programme

Soshanguve Animal Shelter and Educare

In celebration of National Children's Day, The Star Foundation hosted a special event for children at the Soshanguve Animal Shelter and EDUcare Centre in Pretoria. We are also proud to have donated towards the shelter's expansion, enabling it to accommodate and educate even more children in the community.

The Soshanguve Animal Shelter and EDUcare Centre is non-profit organization that plays a vital role in educating the local youth about animal welfare, steering them away from the dangers of the streets. A major function of the Educare Centre at the shelter is to provide after-school programmes to the children in the community.

Since its inception in 2023, the organization has welcomed 180 children from the community and provided over 12,000 meals at the centre. As a result of the donation, the shelter will be able to accommodate even more children, providing a safe space and homework assistance.

The organization has also made a significant impact in and around Soshanguve, rescuing over 370 dogs, rehoming 89, feeding 4910 dogs and sterilizing 344.

In a township where knowledge about animal care is limited, the organization’s mission is to teach children the importance of feeding, protecting, and caring for animals.

National Childrens Day

Anika Koekemoer from Potchefstroom was diagnosed with Osteosarcoma, a type of bone cancer, of her left leg in August 2019. She immediately started chemotherapy but after two cycles it became evident that she would need an amputation.

That same year Anika underwent a through-knee amputation. She was only five years old at the time. Thankfully the histology came back showing an excellent response that meant Anika was cancer free.

In 2021, Anika’s mother reached out to Jumping Kids for assistance to get her daughter the prosthetic equipment that she needs to lead a full, active life. She was fitted with her first sponsored prosthesis, and she has not looked back since.

Now, equipped with her prosthesis, she can live a normal life, is doing well academically, and can participate in sport – particularly target shooting and archery which she is excelling in.

What is your favourite subject at school and why?

My favourite subject in school is Art because it allows me to share my creativity with my friends.

What would you like to pursue as a career one day?

It is my dream to one day become a doctor, or an astronaut so that I can explore space.

What types of sport and extracurricular activities are you involved in?

I participate in Archery and Target Shooting.

What do you hope to try with your new prosthetic sports blade?

By continuing to use my sports blade to practice my love of archery and target shooting, I hope to inspire other people to live life to the fullest regardless of their disability.

What is your message to children living with a physical challenge?

Empowered by my prosthetic equipment I do not feel disabled, I feel normal, and I am able to lead a normal life. I want to be an example of what is possible despite living with a disability.

African Eye Institute

Clear vision is the gateway to a world full of possibilities, especially for children at school. Without proper eye care, even the most curious minds can be hindered by a blurry view of the world, affecting their learning.

The Star Foundation has joined forces with the 

 to make a meaningful difference in the lives of learners at schools in the Eastern Cape and KwaZulu Natal. This partnership aims to provide vital eye care services ensuring that these children can see clearly and reach their full potential.

Founded in 2003 by Professor Brien Holden, the African Eye Institute is a non-profit organization committed to delivering quality eye care to those who need it most. Prof. Holden's vision was to create a world where no one is limited by poor vision.

For many children, the simple joy of reading a book, seeing the board in class or playing with friends can be out of reach due to untreated vision problems. Poor eyesight not only hinders a child’s ability to learn but also affects their confidence and overall well-being. Without the proper support, these children may struggle to keep up with their peers.

Prof. Holden, often hailed as “the most influential optometrist of our generation,” dedicated his life to advancing eye health. Through his lectures, research and unwavering advocacy, he has inspired countless others to join the cause to ensure that everyone has access to quality eye care.

The Star Foundation’s partnership with the African Eye Institute goes beyond providing glasses or treatments—it’s about giving children the gift of sight, the confidence to engage fully in their education and the hope for a brighter future.
